BRAND NEW: SWI Heritage Project

From its grassroots beginnings to becoming Scotland’s largest women’s movement, the story of the Scottish Women’s Institutes (SWI) is one of community, creativity and lasting impact. Through their Heritage Project, they are preserving this remarkable legacy, showcasing collections and archives so their place in Scotland’s history continues to shine.

The SWI Heritage Project celebrates over a century of women’s voices, skills and achievements, ensuring these stories live on and continue to inspire. Thanks to vital support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund in 2024, the SWI is opening their heritage to a new generation through a series of free workshops designed especially for younger women and non-members.

Staying true to their long-held ethos, “If you know a good thing, pass it on,” these workshops make it easier than ever to learn a new craft, connect with others and become part of something bigger. It is important to continue to share skills that strengthen communities and empower women today, tomorrow and for generations to come. So, if you are interested in learning something new, the SWI looks forward to welcoming you at the Creative Crafts Glasgow show in March 2026.

The full workshop programme will be available to view on the SWI website and social media prior to the event, and spaces will be available on a first come, first serve basis, but you can expect a variety of skills to be showcased, such as textiles, papercrafts, needlework and more!
