REALISTIC NEEDLE FELTED HARE with Joan Moncrieffe (aka Prowse) ALL DAY MASTERCLASS

Join talented needle felt artist Joan Moncrieffe in this fabulous masterclass to create a beautiful realistic 3D hare, standing 24cm tall. This is an unmissable opportunity to learn her techniques and get individual attention for one day only to create a realistic hare.

The day will be crammed with technique tuition and will be different to any other hare-making workshop you may have done previously.

The degree of realism is achievable within the time frame; participants will learn how to work from a photograph to create a 3D animal, work with wire armature, create fine limbs, develop shading and shaping; how to achieve thin realistic ears, add glass eyes and whiskers and much more.

Full day Academy Masterclass tickets include:

Lunch and refreshments throughout day, plus a boxed kit with all essential materials and tools supplied.

Academy workshop tickets also include a Complementary ticket to visit the main show on another day.

Important Note – Please read before booking:

Participants must have some needle felting experience (preferably some 3D, but not necessarily with an armature) – Joan will not be teaching basic needle felting techniques, as this is a masterclass.

Meet the Tutor

Joan Moncrieffe B.A. (aka Prowse)

Joan is a multi-media artist based in Devon. Having spent time living and exhibiting in France, she returned to the UK and became a regular exhibitor with the ICHF Events. Her three-dimensional design degree skills were put to work to pioneer large 2D/3D needle-felted animal portraits and she is perhaps best known for her original creation of “Peace in the Valley” (the Lion and Lamb) back in 2013.

Since then she has gained a reputation as an expert in needle felting both as a tutor and artist. In recent years she has decided to spend time away from the shows to hone her skills focusing on commission work and her own artwork selling through galleries. Joan now teaches occasional three-day masterclasses with participants coming from all over the world to take part.

IN THE MEADOW – Layer, Paint and Stitch with Wendy Dolan ALL DAY MACHINE EMBROIDERY MASTERCLASS

This Masterclass is inspired by the Meadow Flowers Project in Wendy’s book ‘Layer, Paint and Stitch’, during the day you will learn how to layer natural fabrics and trimmings, stitching them down with freehand machine embroidery to create a textured background. Fabric paint will then be applied to the layered surface before stitching into it creating a meadow of flowers and grasses. Enjoy learning how to ‘draw’ with your machine and develop skills, which you can put into practise on your own machine at home.

Under Wendy’s guidance you will:

  • Select some natural textured fabrics and arrange them on a background of calico.
  • Learn how to set up your machine for freehand embroidery and stitch the fabrics in place using white cotton thread.
  • Add natural/white flower trimmings for additional texture.
  • Use fabric paint to colour the background layers.
  • Have a short sewing practise creating foliage and flowers, and then you can enjoy stitching into your design with coloured threads, incorporating coloured sheer fabrics as you work.

Your beautiful flower meadow will come alive before your eyes, as you gradually build up the design.

Full day Academy Masterclass tickets include:

Lunch and refreshments throughout day, all equipment and materials including: fabrics, trimmings, paints, threads and any other consumables.

Academy workshop tickets also include a Complementary ticket to visit the main show on another day.

Important Note:

Suitable for all levels of ability over the age of 16 years.

Introduction to Making Dressmaking Patterns: Designing the perfect bodice with Sarah Laws, My Handmade Wardrobe ALL DAY MASTERCLASS

Explore the fundamentals of pattern making with pattern designer Sarah Laws. Learn how to manipulate darts to create a vast range of different design details. Starting with a half scale block you will experiment with different ways to move shaping around the bodice including pivoting and moving darts, creating gathers, pleats and contoured style-lines. In the afternoon you will move on to create a pattern and toile for your own unique bodice design in full scale using a pre-made bodice block.

Bodice block sizing fits waist 66cm- 120cm, Bust 82cm-138cm. If your measurements fall outside of these, you will make a bodice that is the closest fit. In order to cover all the fundamentals of dart manipulation in this session, we will not have time to cover personalised fitting, but this is something, which can be studied at a later date in Sarah’s fitting courses held at Carolyn Rose School of Sewing in Leamington Spa.

Full day Academy Masterclass tickets include:

Lunch and refreshments throughout day, all equipment and materials required.

Academy workshop tickets also include a Complementary ticket to visit the main show on another day.
