Join Anita for a captivating workshop, “A Winter’s Lake,” where you will learn the art of free-motion embroidery on pre-printed fabric. Anita O’Neill

Sewing has been an integral part of Anita’s life since she was young. Growing up with a mother who was a skilled tailor, Anita didn’t particularly enjoy the structural aspects of sewing, but she eagerly lent a hand in embellishing wherever she was allowed.

Receiving her first sewing machine at 16, Anita went on to achieve Level I and II certification in Creative Studies and design, working with renowned artist Ruth Issett.

In October 2013, Anita established her own studio in Norfolk, where she could teach mixed media textiles and invite other tutors to share their expertise in the area. Today, Eau Brink Studio continues to thrive, offering a diverse range of workshops throughout the year to cater to all disciplines within the textile world.

As an exhibiting artist and proud member of the West Norfolk Artists Association, Anita’s work can be enjoyed at numerous local venues throughout the year.

WINTER WONDERLAND – FREE-MACHINE EMBROIDERED LANTERN with Ruth Parkinson-Johns – 10.00

Free-Machine Embroidery will be used to trap fibres and fabrics between layers of water-soluble stabiliser, to create a winter landscape with a beautiful festive tree in the foreground. 

With useful tips and instructions given in the session, wash out the stabiliser at home and stitch together around the vessel.

All materials including a vessel to work around and LED Fairy lights will be included.

Ruth is a Mixed Media Textile Artist who works with an experimental approach in printing, dyeing, hand and machine embroidery. Her inspiration is found in nature, imagination and memory. Ruth enjoys sharing her passion for textiles with others through teaching here at the NEC Birmingham and on special request from various Textile/Art groups etc.

LEARN HOW TO MACHINE A TEXTILE LANDSCAPE with Julie Cole, Dropped Stitch Artists – 10.30

Using painted Bondaweb, Tyvek, organza, lace and handmade cords you will create a 15 x 15cm (6 x 6in) textile landscape picture.

Step-by-step instructions will be given at the workshop, along with a printed a hand out.

Advisory Note:

Some prior experience of using a sewing machine and the free-motion embroidery foot would be useful.

Not suitable to children under 16 years.

Julie Cole

Julie Cole is a member of the textile group Dropped Stitch Artists, and is a textile and mixed media artist living in South Lincolnshire. Being a visual type of person she finds herself very much drawn towards creating texture through mixed media art.  

She loves mark-making, mono-printing and making her own creative fabrics to work with through dyeing eco-dyeing and printing.

MACHINE EMBROIDERED ZIP POUCH OR WALL ART with SarahB – 10.00

Use free motion embroidery, in the distinctive dark thread characteristic of SarahB’s work, to create one or two beautiful embroideries that can be made into a small zip pouch bag or kept to be framed later. If you choose the wall-art option you may have time to add colour.

SarahB

SarahB has industrial and teaching experience as a textile and fashion practitioner. She became a full member of MAKE Southwest in 2018 (then The Devon Guild of Craftsmen) and won the inaugural Best Newcomer Award at the annual Craft Festival in Bovey Tracey. Sarah has work in the Museum of Design in Plastics, which doesn’t conflict with her sustainability ethos as it’s a piece crafted from recycled materials.

Sarah’s designs have been seen in a number of publications including The Guardian as well as in Elle, Harpers & Queen and Embroidery magazines. One of her designs was used as a visual on screen in Series 2 of BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee.

Sarah enjoys membership of The Green Maker Initiative and creates her inspiring and unique textile art on any one of her four vintage treadle machines.
