Introducing you to the amazing craft of needle felting. What you need? How It’s done? Who is it for and what can you make? This talk and demo will cover all of the above and show case makes from whimsical decorations to practical useful items and applications. There will be tips on wools, tools and accessories, plus time for questions.

Steffi has been needle felting for over 20 years and is an expert when it comes to this amazing and addictive craft. Her innovative ‘thinking outside the box’ has helped lead the way in Needle Felting Industry and attracted many creatives as well as world famous businesses to work with her, including: Aardman Animation, Me to You Tatty Teddy, The Official Flower Fairies and RSPB.

This PowerPoint presentation illustrates work, which Sheena completed during the first year of the pandemic as well as images taken on her daily walks along the River Ness and Caledonian Canal during the seasons. 

You will see many techniques – hand appliqué, machine piecing, fabric printing, hand embroidery, hand and machine quilting. Themes include circles, flowers, leaves, feathers, birds, seascapes, group challenges and several ideas for using scraps.

Sarah loves to travel – and Ioves to quilt, and she has been lucky enough to combine the two, visiting some amazing places around the world and bringing back quilts from far-flung places.

This talk will give you the opportunity to take a close look at Sarah’s collection of quilts from trips to India, Nepal, Canada and the USA, looking at how they are created, the techniques used, how the techniques have travelled from place to place, and how quilting can be a record of our own social history.

We will talk about how a fabric from India was banned in the 17th century, but not until it had changed the way we dressed and decorated our homes.

Finally, we will look at how traditional techniques are still used in some areas of the world to great effect and how the art of quilting is changing lives for the better. You will get up close and personal to Sarah’s quilts and their stories, and she promises, you will never look at a quilt in the same way again!

Elisabeth is a Natural dyer and a Botanical printer based in Scotland and working essentially with plant based dyed.

In this talk she will describe how she uses nature around her to create permanent marks and prints on fabric in a sustainable way. Elisabeth teaches online and in person workshops in a range of Eco techniques that allow you to use foraged and grown plants to create your own unique patterns. She specialises in working small scale with “at home” participants during the Covid crises. She grows a dye garden and forage in the Glasgow area too.
