DROP SPINDLE WORKSHOP with Leigh Thornton, The Colour Dasher – Saturday 7th March 2026 – 10.30am

Price: £38
LOCATION: Glasgow
Duration: 2 hours

A fun workshop to introduce you to the art of spinning your own yarn using a drop spindle, a great activity for fans of crocheting, knitting, weaving or tapestry.

What is a drop spindle?
A drop spindle is a tool for spinning fibres into lengths of yarn or threads. As the name suggests, it drops down and hangs from your fibres whilst it’s
spinning.

This beginner friendly workshop will show you the basics of spinning wool fibres into your own yarn.

You will learn:
 How to hold and use a drop spindle
 How to handle wool tops
 How to change colours
 How to ply your yarn
A great way for any yarn enthusiast to spend a few hours seeing their materials from a new perspective whilst learning a new addictive skill!

Advisory Note:
This workshop requires fine motor skills in the hands and fingers of both hands and also requires full movement of both arms. You can of course take breaks when needed, but you will need to be able to work with your arms elevated for extended periods. You will be seated forward in your seat for much of the session, again of course you may take breaks!

Suitable for all ages, but under 16’s with adult supervision only.
